ALMOST LOST

FIRST SATURDAY DEVOTION WAS ALMOST LOST FOREVER!
In 1926 while Lucia was a young novitiate with the Dorothean Sisters in Pontevedra, her confessor told her to burn what she had written about the request of the First Saturday's devotion and reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary! This was after several visits by the Child Jesus in the courtyard of the Sisters' house, in which Jesus asked if she had "spread throughout the world what the heavenly Mother asked her to do."
Lucia replied to the Child that the Mother Superior could do nothing to spread this devotion, to which Jesus replied, "It is true that that Mother Superior on her own can do nothing, but with my grace, she can do everything."
Soon after, she was sent to the Sisters' house in Tuy where her new confessor, flabbergasted that she was told to burn the writings, ordered her to write them down again. It was here that she saw the beginning of the spread of this devotion throughout the world. Sister Lucia's own mother was one of the first to embrace the First Saturday devotion, despite her doubts about the apparitions. The devotion was officially approved in 1939.
December 5 is a First Saturday. We encourage you to offer the gift of this devotion to Our Lady, who so desires the salvation of souls.
